live in the moment
3 steps to improving your performance and happiness in both work and life.
One of the benefits from travelling so much is that I get to catch up on all the essential reading that I never seem to find time for on the ground.
I love reading books that take a complex issue and turn it into a simple easy to digest story full of common sense that doesn't so much tell you but rather helps you along a journey of discovery, which is different for different people.
The Present is one such book written by Dr Spencer Johnson.
It's a simple story of a boys journey of discovery with the help of an old wise man.
The key points for me
Live in the Present -
focus on what I am doing now, whether it's working on a project, spending time with my family or simply walking on the beach.
Focusing on the Right stuff or the things that are right and positive now, has helped improve my performance and improved my relationships. I'm am now a better listener and more attentive a I focus on the present.
Learn from the past
Only look to the past to learn so I can have a better present.
I sometimes dwelt in the past which affected by ability to focus on the present.
There is no point looking to the past if we do not do something differently as a result.
Plan for a better future
I used to sometimes worry about the future, which affected my ability to focus on the present.
Now I imagine a better future and make plans on how to make it happen, this means I have things to do now (in the present) that will help create a better future.
Living in the moment has given me greater appreciation of the greatness that is around us and made me a happier more content man.

Lucid in Dubai
Just back from our week long Sales training event in Dubai.
I love training in this Region, the delegates (mostly from Middle East and Africa) are friendly, hungry for knowledge and full of fun.
Their command of English is incredible and puts my language skills to shame.
The training facilities in the hotel were first class and the staff both professional and helpful. Not to mention the swimming pool and beach, I can think of worse ways to end each day.
I had two of the nicest comments after the event,
Home for 24 hours then off to London.
